Robin Aguilar-Gonzalez
Marketing Intern
Robin’s path to “the American Dream” started when he was just 17 years old. He grew up in
Costa Rica, where soccer was the most popular sport of choice. He dabbled in playing soccer
while majoring in teaching English at the National University in Costa Rica. (He knew that
learning English was a necessity if he was one day going to make it to America.) One of Robin’s soccer coaches took notice of the fact that Robin was “a pretty fast runner” and told him that, with some training, he could really do something with his talent. The rest, as they say, is history.
It became Robin’s goal to secure a scholarship to a college in the United States as a runner. Once Robin earned the title of National Champion in the 2019 National Championship Games, he knew it was the right time to secure a scholarship spot. He applied to many colleges in the U.S. Many said no. In fact, the pile of no’s was becoming quite large. But Iowa Central Community College said “yes,” offering Robin a full-ride scholarship. And all Robin needed was one “yes.” It was his golden opportunity. His flight to—and future in—the United States became a reality.
In January of 2021, Robin became an international student at Iowa Central Community College, where he broke the school record and went on to win two National Championships in cross-country as well as a half-marathon that they ran as a team. He is proud to say that he is an 11 time “All American,” and has remained among the top eight runners in the United States as an international athlete, since arriving here. He is now a four-time National Champion, who holds four school records. His event? The Steeplechase. (If you don’t know what that is, you should go look it up. It is the most difficult track and field event out there, riddled with hurdles, water obstacles, and a long distance to run.) On the heels of Robin’s success as a runner, offers began to roll in from other big colleges and universities. His goal was to find “the right one,” which meant one with the best academic program that offered him the best scholarship opportunity. And along came Marion University in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a great business school, offering a full ride. Robin accepted the offer, where he majored in marketing with a specialization in sales and a minor in communication. By day, he runs, trains, and studies. In his spare time, he teaches English to his fellow international students.
Pairing his love for digital marketing with his passion for helping others, Robin has handled marketing campaigns for a Costa Rican soccer team and a company that exports Mangoes from Costa Rica to the U.S. and Europe. He also runs a few social pages of his own in the genres of music and his personal “American Dream” story. Robin joined The Nice Law Firm as a Marketing Intern near the end of 2024, as a senior student at Marian University, on the cusp of graduating with his bachelor’s degree.
The American Dream? Robin is living it every day. And he is just getting started. With his eyes set upon the Olympic Games in 2028 – we are honored to be a part of his journey. As a valuable member of The Nice Law Firm team, we look forward to watching his life story continue to unfold.
When not handling marketing campaigns at the Firm, running long distances, or leaping over water obstacles on the track in front of him, you can likely find Robin chatting with his long-time girlfriend or his grandmother back home in Costa Rica, fishing, surfing, or spending time with his friends. To him, family is everything.
