Attorney Opportunities

Resident Attorney Opportunities – Indiana

The Nice Law Firm is looking for one or more attorneys interested in being “on the ground,” but not necessarily spending every day in the office. We are an established law firm (over 30 years) with eight brick and mortar offices throughout central and southern Indiana seeking an attorney to cover one of our new territories based in any the following cities: Brookville, Covington, Jasper, LaPorte, Monticello, Portland, Rensselaer, Vincennes, Wabash, Warsaw, and/or Winamac, and extending into the surrounding counties of each of these individual territories. We have multiple opportunities available in non-rural county seats throughout Indiana. Where do YOU want to live and work as an attorney? Is there a county seat where you’d like to establish yourself — sit on various boards, join local groups, be a respected member of the community, and live a balanced life between engaging in your work and enjoying your life? We are looking for attorneys who are driven, skilled, knowledgeable, passionate, and who have a desire to run a successful legal practice without all the headaches, financial frustrations, and logistical/management/staffing burdens associated with running a flourishing practice. We have the systems, the set up, and the people in place to make sure this happens for you!

With our eye turned toward growth, we are looking to add additional “virtual” offices to our physical presence. This is a remote position that will allow you to work from home, with occasional in-person meetings with potential clients, together with appearance at court hearings when required. Most work can routinely be performed remotely. We have the technology, systems, and staff in place that will allow you to work seamlessly from home, so long as you have a good internet connection and a dedicated workspace. You will be matched up with one of our very experienced paralegals.

You need not live in a territory initially, although that is a plus. However, we are looking for someone willing to relocate when it makes business sense to do so.

The Firm has a general practice, based in litigation, which includes real estate, small business, family law, criminal defense, wills/trusts/estates, personal injury, and professional liability. Adding additional transactional attorneys to serve our multiple offices is also a possibility. We offer extensive support and cutting-edge technology. The Firm covers all expenses and manages the back end of the business while you focus on practicing law. Compensation includes a base plus commission, but your total compensation is limited only by your effort. We intend to make you extremely successful. Our next attorney will be competent, self-confident, motivated, and charismatic. Start date is flexible.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive screened calls and emails from potential clients
  • Handle the engagement process
  • Represent clients in court or before government agencies
  • Manage the litigation process
  • Advise clients on business and legal transactions
  • Negotiate resolutions
  • Attend mediations
  • Assist with overflow work from other offices
  • Assist in growing the local client base
  • Maintain, improve, and expand your competencies and reputation in multiple areas of practice

Personal Attributes:

  • Competence
  • Commitment
  • Communication
  • Perseverance
  • Organization
  • Empathy
  • Self-Discipline
  • Timeliness
  • Collegiality

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant legal experience
  • Familiarity with current legal technology (e-filing, timekeeping, research, etc.)
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Legal research skills
  • Ability to build rapport with clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

If you would like to leave the rat race of the city for the success and satisfaction of practicing law in a suburban or rural part of Indiana – where you can help real people solve real problems and be a leading and respected member of the community — then opportunity is knocking. Don’t miss it.

Non-smokers only. Please send resume WITH cover letter to jcollins@nicelawfirm.com expressing interest and explaining why you would make a GREAT Resident Attorney.  No calls please.

P.S. If you would like to work in a county where we are not yet present, let us know. We might set you up!
